Keeping your living space in good condition can sometimes be a trying task. Besides seasonal deep cleaning your house or apartment, you will inevitably be confronted with things around the house needing repair work.

While some tasks might be difficult to ignore or put off – like a plumbing issue is of the hard-to-live-with kind – others are often overlooked or avoided. However, by making sure the following five jobs get done around the house, living is already much easier.

1. Garage Doors

If you have a garage, you might have had the unpleasant experience of a broken garage door. The frustration that can come with doors that won’t open properly or the element running a rampage due to broken weather seals is familiar to many. Instead of putting the problem off, giving up, and parking your car outside to avoid the inconvenience a broken garage door poses, you can easily find a fix with a garage door repair service.

While some repairs might seem easy to do yourself, relying on experts is a foolproof way to never be late to work again. Well, at least not because your garage door was stuck.

2. HVAC

Getting fresh air is important. It helps you retain focus, feel good, and well — stay alive. It should therefore come as no surprise that making sure that the quality of the air in your house is top-notch should be high up on your priority list.

It is easy to overlook the necessity to check and possibly repair any issues you can have with heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning. While a truly broken system might be noticeable right away, smaller maintenance jobs can often be forgotten. Experts recommend a change of filters monthly, especially if you live with pets or have allergies.

3. Smoke and CO Detectors

Similarly overlooked are the frequent checkups that smoke and carbon monoxide detectors require. These are important features we all rely on for our safety. Making sure that they work and regularly changing their batteries will not only keep you and your loved ones safe, but it is also a simple task.

Most detectors feature a test button that allows you to make sure everything is working if not, a change of batteries and a quick clean might be all that is needed. Sometimes saving the day is not all so difficult.

4. Garbage Disposal

Garbage disposals are handy and sometimes a bit hazardous. Most commonly though, they are dirty. If you notice yours giving off an unpleasant smell, it is time to get to fixing that.

Often a thorough clean is all it takes to get things back on track. A good way of making sure your disposal is fresh and running is to run vinegar ice cubes through it. While the vinegar helps to get rid of unwanted odour, the ice helps to keep the blades sharp and effective.

5. Loose Cabinet Knobs

Lastly, you have probably come across the phenomenon of the odd loose handle or knob in your house. Although annoying, addressing the problem is often forgone because it is, after all, just a handle. Moreover, if you have ever tried just tightening it back, you will have noticed that once a knob or handle came to lose it is bound to come loose again and again.

An easy fix for this is a small drop of adhesive placed strategically. This will prevent any future loosening and is a simple trick for a pesky problem.
