The smart home market is expected to grow by 31% year after year from 2018 to 2022. Don’t leave your home behind – creating a smart home will not only save on your energy costs but will grow the value of your home when it’s time for resale.

Smart Switch or Bulb?

When upgrading your lighting to smart status, you may be wondering which is more efficient, smart switches or bulbs? A smart switch is usually less expensive to install throughout the home and it works with those not so smart bulbs. Installing bulbs generally means you will be purchasing more product than if you were to just purchase the switches because the number of each in your home.

What’s also great about the smart switch is that it can work as a typical light switch. So, when guests come over they won’t be confused if they haven’t already upgraded their homes to homes that are more high tech. Smart bulbs cannot be used by a regular switch, but need to be controlled by either voice command, such as Google or Alexa, or by a smartphone app.

Upgraded Security

A smart light switch can provide your home with extra security, not just fancy lighting. When connected to a security system, the lights will turn on during certain incidents, such as a suspected intruder nearing or possible fire – you’ll be notified by your smartphone app of the potential concern. If you’re thinking about a smart security system, it’s definitely worth your while. You’ll be able to constantly monitor your home in real time or review past events right from your phone.

Create Mood Lighting

If your bulb is capable, you can create mood lighting in an instant from your smartphone or by voice command. No more dimming switches, just ask, “Alexa, turn on the evening lights.” This changes your lighting from a blue tone to a red tone, which allows for better sleep at night.

Save Money

Some smart lighting options offer motion detection. If there is no motion in a room for your specified amount of time, your lights will turn off, which in turn save you money on your electricity bill. Even if motion detection is not your thing, smart lights are compatible with your smartphone app and can be turned off and on wherever you may be. If you forgot to turn off the kitchen light on your way out the door, you can turn it off from your phone.
