It seems that different areas of the housing sector are struggling to agree on what the actual supply situation is concerning the number of houses for sale in the UK property market.
Surveyors have revealed that their findings show that there is too much supply of properties in the market, meaning that buyers have more choice than ever before in finding a house to match their needs. With some buyers deciding to wait for asking prices to fall further yet more sellers deciding that this is the perfect opportunity to move, some believe that there appears to be a gridlock between buyers and sellers which are slowing down overall progress in estate agents.
Despite this, some people are asking questions as to why it takes more than six years for people to get the right type of council house they need for their circumstances. Close to 2 million people are registered and waiting with housing associations up and down the country – meaning that there appears to be a clear conflict between oversupply and simply not enough properties to go around.
Even though new properties are being built to satisfy needs, there are still concerns that not enough is being done to help those who need help to get on the property ladder. With the Government making sweeping cuts, this situation is not likely to get any better any time soon.
Conflicting opinions are prominent anywhere you go, but it is believed that social housing needs to be a more proactive part of the Government’s efforts, with reductions on the hoops that new projects need to go through in the form of planning permission. What’s more, there have been criticisms in the property sector that imply builders are not constructing places to live with what is in demand. As a result, there can be a higher supply of one-bed flats in some cases when larger living spaces are actually required.
