From garden sheds to the classic beach hut, these cosy little spaces are becoming rather sought after, and with George Clarke’s recent Shed of the Year programme on Channel 4 (here)it really got me thinking about how hard it would be to make your own little ‘amazing space’.
With summer in full force and more and more people staying at home rather than going abroad what better time to decorate your own small spot by the sea, or do up that miniature hideaway at the bottom of your garden.
Here are a few ideas to get you started on your new summer project!
Firstly beach huts, although they’re quite expensive to buy, theres nothing quite like it when the weather’s this fine and what better place to spend a heat wave than at the beach?

With a beach hut its all about the bright colours however, despite saying that, there is a strong case to be made for a good pastel Nautical colours are also very much part of the look, you are by these a after all.
To give an even more beach bohemian feel to your home made haven by the sea why not get the kids to help? For a fun activity, why not make wind chimes out of drift woodland shells you find on the beach, giving your space a little rustic ramshackle charm.
Add a few nautical themed cushions and perhaps an anchor for good measure and Captian Bobs your uncle!
The simple garden shed on the other hand is a much more cost effective offer, with sheds from hardware stores and garden centres costing as little as 120, or even less if you’re into your carpentry.
In your back garden the world is your oyster and so is the colour scheme, so go wild! Why not paint a mural on the side if you’re handy with a brush, or maybe some good old fashioned hand prints if the brushes aren’t for you? Here are a few ideas I particularly love!

When it comes to your hideout at home though the one thing you really need discomfort If you’re looking for a little luxury why not line the inside with some fabric and add a chez long if you’re willing to splash a bit of cash. If your tastes are slightly more rustic however, then why not just add a few lovingly worn blankets and cushions to really give it that homemade feeling.
But whether you decide to live it up at the beach, or you just want a few home comforts, get out there and get creative, because with a summer this good why wouldn’t you?
