What can we say about the 70’s? It often gets labelled as the least memorable decade, especially when compared to the peace and love of the 60’s. However, let’s take a look at what the 70’s actually produced: M*A*S*H premiered, VCRs were introduced, Microsoft was founded, we got the first female Prime Minister, and Star Wars was released. A pretty impressive decade, no? Maybe not so bright during Maggies reign, but a woman getting the PM job was still a momentous occasion.
As for interior design, the fun, wacky style of the 60’s wasn’t left behind. Disco became huge during this era and the funky style found its way into lots of homes across the UK. When it comes to colours, they weren’t exactly the most varied and extensive, but the palettes, made up of browns, oranges, mustards and other earthy colours, worked well together.

Again much like the 60’s, the 70’s style was very laid back and easy-going. A comfy vintage sofa or a quirkily designed chair is enough to add a retro look to any living room.
Linoleum was another common flooring choice because of its low price and huge variety. Naturally, linoleum or wood flooring paired well with a good, thick shag rug too. For accessories, think futuristic and space-like – lava lamps, globe lamps, chrome, and plastic. If art is your thing, some abstract paintings will add a touch of culture to any room.
