Nobody can deny that moving house is often one of the most stressful events of your life. Without proper preparation, your worst moving day nightmares can quickly become a reality and you’ll be pulling fistfuls of hair from your head before you can utter the words ‘fragile content’.
Moving house is a part of life and something everyone has to do at some point, that’s why we’ve created a small list of valuable tips to help make sure your moving day runs as smoothly as possible.
#1. The Earlier the Better
There is no such thing as ‘too early’ when it comes to moving day. So if you know you’re not going to use that toastie maker until after the move, box it up there and then. Starting to pack as early as you can not only save a lot of rushing about in the days leading up to the big move, but it also gets the ball rolling about what you need to do to make sure everything goes as planned
#2. Hire a Professional Removal Company
If you’re going to be putting everything you own in the whole world into the hands of a removals company, you want to make sure the company you hire are skilled and experienced. In many cases, people need companies who do removals internationally, so even if you need removals to Italy, there are still people out there who can help! Some companies will even help you pack, which can certainly ensure a big weight is lifted from your shoulders.
#3. Create a Log Book
What’s the point in packing everything up nice and neatly if 58 boxes later you realise you need your fluffy winter mittens but have no idea where you put them? Accordingly, it makes logical sense to thoroughly label each box and log everything into a corresponding log book. This way, no one will be without their favourite mittens and you’ll have warm hands come moving day.
#4. Declutter
We don’t like to admit it to ourselves, but some of our possessions are utterly useless. You might have impulse bought a food blender five years ago and are still yet to make any use of it. Our suggestion – throw it away. We all know there’s no point moving junk from one house to the next, so be honest with yourself and make sure that everything you pack is either beautiful or useful.
#5. Pack a Moving Day Survival Kit
Last but not least, be prepared for anything and everything. It’s a good idea to pack a survival kit full of essentials which you know you’ll be needing for the entire day and even the next few. A survival kit is basically a glorified wash bag but with a cooler name. Make sure you pack any essential medication, a toothbrush, shower gel and shampoo. The last thing you want to be doing is rummaging around in boxes when all you need is quick brush and a spritz of deodorant!
