Are you downsizing now that your kids have moved out or are you upsizing because you are going to start a family? Are you being transferred for work or did you get a new job? Whatever your reason is, selling your house is an event that happens in many people’s lives. Anybody who has ever gone through the process of moving from one house to a new house will tell you that finding a new place to live is the easy part.

The hard part of this life event is selling your old home. Everyone wants the process of selling an old house to be as quick and painless as possible. So we come to the question which is how do you make your current living space attractive enough so that people looking on the market to buy a house will notice it and, more importantly, place an offer and want to purchase it?

Here are 7 remodeling ideas that you can do before selling your home.

Redo your cabinets

Whether they are your kitchen cabinets or your washroom cabinets, your home will greatly benefit from this remodeling project. This classic remodeling task can be done in two primary ways. The first way in which you can remodel your home concerning your cabinets is by getting new cabinets. This option, however,  is often the more expensive option. In today’s modern age you can find cabinets in practically every home improvement store. You can also find cabinets that fit into any space that you need them to. You can even purchase cabinets at a home hardware store and ask the workers who are employed there to have them customized to fit into your existing space. You’ll need basic hand woodworking power tools plus a drill, a handsaw, a cabinet table saw, a hot-melt glue gun, and a vacuum cleaner with a hose.

On the other hand, many mobile companies offer self-made cabinets and will come to your home and have them installed for you. These facts make this first option very convenient for you if you are pressed for time or if you are not handy in the field of remodeling and home improvement. However, the second option to this remodeling project is by resurfacing your existing cabinets. This option can take time and effort if you do it yourself. Luckily enough, some companies exist out there today that will also come and resurface your existing cabinets. This second option has the benefits of allowing you to personalize your cabinets in any colour that you want so that it will be guaranteed to compliment your washroom or kitchen. Another benefit of remodeling your existing cabinets is that it will save you the mess that would have been created if you’re decision was to replace your old cabinets.

Paint your walls

Nothing says home sweet home like a fresh coat of paint. Over time, the paint on your walls will fade, chip and flake. Also, sometimes, stains happen. Let’s face it, some stains just don’t come out. Interior design trends are always changing so adding a new coat of paint to keep up with the current interior design trends will impress even the pickiest of home buyers.

This remodeling project is probably the easiest and cheapest project that you can do and is time tested to always be a huge benefit when trying to sell a house. You can repaint any room in your house in any colour that you want. However, why stop there? You can take this remodeling project as an opportunity to fill in any cracks or dents in your walls with plaster before you begin to paint. To add on, you can take this to the next level by repainting your trimmings and ceiling too.

Put in new windows

Your windows take a lot of brutality over the years due to harsh weather whether this is a blazing sun or freezing snow and ice. By replacing your windows home buyers will be attracted as they will know that these new windows will eliminate pesky drafts from entering the home as well as heat escaping the home which will save them a load of money when their bills come around. Also, new windows are more clear than old windows and so the influx of sunlight will brighten up the interior of your house which will not only make space feel fresh but will also save money concerning electricity bills.

Look at your floors

Your floors have to bear the brute of feet, furniture and more. This statement is true for all the different floors in your home from your kitchen and washroom tiles, to the hardwood in your bedroom and even the carpet in your living room. This remodeling project can be done on any floor type in any room in your house. For instance, you can replace existing tiles that you might have. On the other hand, you can deep clean your carpet using specialized soap and machines that you can buy or rent anywhere such as online or at your local hardware store.

However, sometimes carpets are too old and worn out. If this is the case, then you might want to rip out the existing carpet and put in newer, fluffier and cozier carpet flooring. You can also take out an existing floor type and replace it with a new floor type instead. Hardwood floors that are worn down can either be varnished or replaced. A popular form of replacing hardwood flooring is by putting in cheaper yet still gorgeous vinyl flooring. Likewise, if you want to keep your original flooring, many companies exist that will come in and buff up your existing tiles or hardwood flooring. Some of these companies will also clean your carpets for you.

Step outside of your home

It’s called curb appeal for a reason. The first thing that new buyers will see before they even enter your home can have a great effect on whether they decide to put in an offer or not. This is a simple remodeling task that you can do. You can easily plant a flower bed by purchasing a huge variety of flowers from a garden nursery or home improvement store. Also, you can put up a new fence or remodel your existing one. As a matter of fact, why not get your drive repaved? On the other hand, if you don’t have a green thumb, you can always hire a landscaping company to do the work for you.

Change your light fixtures.

By updating your lighting fixtures you can control how bright you want a certain room to be. Also, lighting fixtures are one of the key elements that always change in popularity when the latest interior design trends get revamped. Therefore, it would be a good idea to get on track and keep your home looking modern to attract potential buyers.

Change your countertops.

Although your countertops play a smaller role in your home, they are no less important than any other project on this remodeling to-do list. From stains to getting chipped, some countertops need to be replaced. This remodeling project can be expensive or inexpensive and will have to be decided on how much time you have on hand. Often enough, you can purchase a countertop material, whether that be wood or stone, and have the place that you bought it from hiring their employees to come into your home in order to have it custom fit or, if this happens to not be the case, hire a different and independent contractor to do this job instead.
