We are waiting with the same anticipation as an ‘oven squatter’ checking on their rise in the oven, for the Great British Bake Off final 2016. Who will take the winning title, Jane, Candice or Andrew?

After the recent controversy over Love Productions sell out to Channel 4 for the tune of £75 million, it will be an emotional final for GBBO fans this year, as Mel, Sue and the Queen of Baking herself, Mary Berry, will be leaving the show in solidarity with the BBC. Paul Hollywood will be the sole member of the original cast to remain with Channel 4 and we have yet to see who will be joining him on set next year.

However, in order to distract ourselves from the imminent sadness that is approaching, we have decided to take a look back over the elements that make the quintessentially British themed kitchen, which has taken a supporting role to the ‘soggy bottom’ drama inside the tent over the last 7 years. The pastel colours, union jack bunting and modern vintage patterns, set in the serene English countryside, provides the perfect backdrop for a show that has brought us back to the kitchen and to baking.

If you like the look of the Bake-Off kitchen and want to incorporate some of that traditional British style into your own home, we have compiled a few ideas to help you on your way.

When the colour and pattern are right, tea towels or tablecloths are an effective way to reflect the Bake-Off feel and are an easy and affordable addition to your kitchen. Whether it’s a retro flowery pattern or a classic spotty design, these Paperchase tea towels will definitely brighten up any kitchen. For a vintage style, a simple floral tablecloth will never go out of fashion and can become a statement piece in your kitchen. These tablecloths from Etsy are another great fit and there are hundreds to choose from!

An essential in any Bake Off replica kitchen is baking equipment and it doesn’t have to hide away in your cupboards. Why not instead show it off? Which is exactly what you will want to do with this classically designed set of scales from Lakeland, with a great vintage look and practical stainless steel surface, it’s easy to use and keep clean. These scales can sit proudly on your worktop ready to use whenever you fancy baking Mary Berry’s vanilla cupcakes. A large mixing bowl can always come in handy and this John Lewis Mason Cash mixing bowl is a good size and the pretty navy blue colour looks great.

Post bake, what better way to show off your cupcakes then presenting them on a cake stand. Dunelm has a range of affordable cake stands to choose from but this one is an ideal addition to your traditional looking kitchen. Finally, to store and transport your baking masterpieces, this set of 3 Christmas themed cake tins from Emma Bridgewater are a stylish accessory to include in your Bake Off themed kitchen.

Bunting is not just for parties and children’s bedrooms, hanging bunting around your kitchen holds colour for a long period of time and if you’re feeling creative you can even craft your own using fabric or old clothes lying around the house. If not, the cotton bunting company have all different kinds of bunting, including the classic union jack bunting, which is featured on the show. Empty glass jars can also offer a touch of Bake Off style in your kitchen- simply put some flowers into the jars, place them on the windowsill in your kitchen or on your dining table and your kitchen will feel instantly refreshed.

Another way to jazz up your Bake Off kitchen is to invest in an electric kitchen top cake mixer, a lá this beautiful KitchenAid version which comes in a multitude of colours for you to choose from.

If you want to go all out, then why not have a go at painting your kitchen cabinets. Choosing a pastel green, yellow, pink or blue can immediately transform your kitchen and installing a wooden worktop will leave you feeling like you’re in the Bake Off tent already.

On your marks… get set… BAKE!
