Salisbury is a great place to live and the area around it is great too. There is so much more to do than you think. It has some great travel links with so many of the main roads near by and only 90 minutes on the train to London Waterloo. It is a 30 minutes drive to Southampton which has the huge shopping centre West Quay and also an Ikea. A 40 minutes drive away is Bournemouth Beach, so on those rare sunny days England has there is a beach close and many more further down the road. Check out these travel safety tips before you head on the road.
In the centre of Salisbury you have the famous Salisbury Cathedral which is one of the tallest spires in Europe. Close by Salisbury Museum is located plus a whole bunch of restaurants from every cuisine you can imagine. If you are after a light lunch head to Fisherton Mill, for an Indian I would highly recommend Anokaa and for a Mexican go to Cactus Jacks. There are lots of Italian restaurants in the heart of Salisbury plus a Nandos! Due to there being so many restaurants, you will definitely be able to find one for a Sunday Roast but make sure you book ahead. Try the Greyhound in Wilton which is a few miles outside of Salisbury.
Also in Wilton you will find Wilton House which is the perfect day out in the Summer with a picnic. It has acres of land with beautiful gardens, a huge play area and an exquisite house where part of Pride and Prejudice (2005) was filmed.
Salisbury also hosts a Charter Market in the Market Square (coincidentally named of course), every Tuesday and Saturday for you to pick up some local produce.
If you are happy to venture a little bit out of Salisbury then you will find Stonehenge. It is worth a visit! People travel from all over the world to see it!
You will also find Larmer Tree Gardens which are beautiful and it hosts a festival in the Summer.
Roughly 40 minutes away is Longleat Safari Park and this is such a fun day out. There is so much to see and do, so it is worth the longer trip!
These are only a select few of the things you can do but they are all ones to add to your list!
Not only that but Salisbury has been named one of the top 10 cities in the world to visit in 2015 by Lonely Planet. If that isn’t a reason to visit, then I don’t know what is!
