Former Arsenal player, Patrick Vieira is set to demolish his £3m 1980s style Hampton pad to start work on his new Iceberg home.As far as we can tell, however, the only real ice is to be found in the freezer. The name more likely refers to the fact that such a huge amount of the property is to be hidden underground. The basement alone will have room to park two cars with a mechanised turntable and car lift, a cinema, and a pretty large amount of storage space.
The ground floor will boast a swimming pool and gym, a games room, a bar, two guest suites, and a solarium to top up that tan. Up from that floor will be the kitchen and dining room with a raised lawn area, and the top floor is where the master bedroom, and two other rooms,are to be situated complete with en-suites all around.
Vieira’s new build has encouraged icy glares from the neighbours, however, amid concerns that the property will ruin the character of the neighbourhood, and overlook nearby homes. For the massive basement, builders would have to dig five metres below the foundation levels and some neighbours are worried that this will damage surrounding properties, even though planning officials have deemed it safe.

Accusations have been made that Vieira and his wife, Cheryl Plaza, failed to consult the neighbouring families before obtaining planning permission and that their disregard for the community’s concerns make them insensitive. Honestly, it sounds a bit like sour grapes are being served. How many of them wish they had space for a pool, a games room and their own suntan lounge? Its natural to be resistant to a big change in your residential area in case it affects your property in any way,whether that be physical or through value. That said, Vieira is well within his rights to do whatever he pleases with his Hampton home provided it is cleared by officials.
To try and make the situation more affable, Vieira has agreed to pay £48,000 towards community infrastructure, as well as removing the rooftop terrace from his plans. Looks like hell have to sip champagne cocktails on one of the other four storeys. And, of course, if the neighbours are concerned about keeping their privacy, they could always do what normal people do and invest in curtains, blinds or a fence.
