The use of concrete flooring was restricted in the past in garages, patios, and basements. However, right now it’s being used all around the house to give it a more modern minimal and elegant look.  Kim Kardashian depended on polished concrete flooring to give her house “a minimal monastery looks” as she said it herself. You can choose between different forms such as polished, stained, plain, or etched. They are also being used simultaneously in industrial buildings, hospitals, schools, and many more. But other than the light reflective properties that make polished concrete flooring so chic, do they have other practical benefits?

Durability

Even though polished concrete flooring requires zero maintenance, besides cleaning, it’s very hard to damage. If this flooring option can withstand forklifts and skated crates, it can certainly tolerate everyday use. It’s a good idea to find yourself a credible name when it comes to finding someone to put in the polished concrete flooring. You name it, dogs running around the house, moving furniture around, or high heels, you don’t have to worry about scratches or cracks. Unlike laminate flooring, spills will not risk the integrity of the floor. Polished concrete floors are spill-proof with their resistance to many chemicals, solvents or any other materials that could spill you can think of.

Cost-effective and low-maintenance

Concrete flooring is an extremely affordable option to be used both commercially, or industrially. Adding the polished finish for decorative purposes could be achieved easily and cheaply. Considering the overall additional costs for maintenance that come with other flooring options, concrete is the cheapest to maintain with minimum life-cycle of 10 years. If you went with a highly reflective finish instead of matte, they will increase the lighting beautifully in your home saving you from big electricity bills.

The required maintenance to keep the glossy polished floor looking new is nothing compared with other flooring options that you need to wax every month or spend hours scrubbing at so harshly. With just sweeping, the occasional mopping, and a damp mop every now and then, you can keep your floor dustless and reflective as you first bought it.

Eco-friendly

Going for polished concrete floors is a great choice if you are trying to keep your decisions “green” because you care about the environment. Concrete is formed from raw materials that could be found in abundance on Earth. Concrete flooring is also VOCs-free (volatile organic compounds). There isn’t any need for the use of hazardous chemical as the non-existence of a carbon footprint with concrete flooring. Not just that, old concrete can be recycled and used again, along with the option to use recycled products into your floor.

Many people still think of concrete flooring as old dull grey surfaces, this could be far from today’s options between different finishes, textures, and colours. But one of the biggest pros of using polished concrete flooring is how user-friendly it is. Even though your floor might look shiny and glossy, it’s not slippery at all. This fact is extremely important, especially if you have any kids or pets, or if you are living with your old folks. As long as you maintain your floor, it should keep its integrity and benefits for a long time.
