This is Anthony Sforza’s basement (above). In 2010, it looked like a typical basement: dank with a side of mould. That was until this father of two and lifelong Star Trek fan from Long Island, NY, had a bright idea: transform it into the bridge of the U.S.S Enterprise.

This final frontier was achieved after a three-year mission, which demanded 1,500 man-hours and $500,000. His sister, Marion, thought this was an unusual renovation: “Anthony’s been obsessed with Star Trek for as long as I think I’ve been alive […] I think he’s a freak, but he loves it and could be into worse things so if that’s what makes him happy then that’s great.”

Sforza’s basement conversion boasts original wall panels modelled after the Enterprise NX-01 (the primary setting of Star Trek: Enterprise), with windows that look out into the ocean of space, a transporter control unit and even a Borg alcove. An avid collector of the show’s memorabilia since the 1980s, Sforza estimates he’s collected in the region of 300 pieces, ranging from uniforms and prosthetics, to props and action figures. He has plans for expansion, hoping to extend the space by another 25 feet to display more of his collection. His family couldn’t be happier.

Sforzas youngest son, Daniel said: “I think that it’s cool because he has all the belts and badges and everything is here to show just how much he loves Star Trek.”
Eldest son, Michael also lent his endorsement, saying: “I would love to do something like this when I’m older it would be pretty cool and I think it would be a good addition to any home.”
Even his wife Annette was in full support from the start: “When Anthony first told me about his vision for the basement I couldn’t see it the way he did, until he started building it. Once that started happening we all started getting very excited because we were seeing his vision come to fruition. I think it’s wonderful, I admire him so much for being able to put vision into something like this and for it to look so incredible it’s wonderful and I’m so proud of him”.
