There are many things you need to consider when moving house so it’s always good advice to be well prepared in advance. But some things are more time-sensitive than others as various services have a waiting list due to the amount of demand or scarcity of suppliers. Here are five key examples of things that have a waiting list that should be booked early.
Moving Van
This one is definitely the most important as if you don’t have a moving van, quite simply put, you are not moving. You can opt for one of two options, hire a van by itself and move all the possessions yourself or a moving firm to do the lifting and the transport for you, the cost for this varies depending on the amount to be moved and possessions usually have to be boxed up and ready to go. Either way, there can be a wait if try and hire these at the last minute.
Cable Or Satellite TV
If you are having a premium TV service installed then it will require the service to be installed by an engineer. This requires booking a visit and these can be very quick to arrange but depending on the area you are moving to and with waiting on the cable engineer being a common gripe you’ll want to get this one booked in early. Especially if you have kids not being able to access TV streaming sites etc can make the first few weeks of moving in a lot more stressful than it needs to be, you’re all in a new and unfamiliar environment and having some distraction can help.
Phone & Broadband Connection
As with the above regarding TV your phone and broadband connection is of key importance as so many of our services these days rely on a connection. It typically takes 3-4 weeks to get a line connection appointment so book this one ASAP. It’s easy to search and compare providers using this service: Usave – broadband to find one that suits you the best.
Home Improvement Contractor
You may have improvements, repairs and alterations to the new house that you knew about prior to purchasing. This can be decorating, re-landscaping the garden or bigger structural work. It’s a good idea to get this type of thing done before you move in, if at all possible. If you are unfamiliar with your new neighbourhood then it’s a good idea to look up reviews on a site like Trusted Trader to get an idea of how previous customers have found them.
Mail Re-Direction
You will surely have changed your address on all your bank accounts, credit cards, etc before moving but there will be ones that you forget. So it’s not a bad idea to get the Post Office to set up a mail redirection service for a few months to catch any that haven’t been changed. This service needs a week’s advance warning to set up so don’t leave it till you are moving.
